The Hunger Games (2012) // Catching Fire (2013)

Reaping just another pair of Tributes who are probably about to die, same as every year vs Reaping former Tributes who already beat the odds and survived, who she’s grown attached to, are now her babies who she genuinely loves and cares about, but who are now probably about to die

Effie really was the character who benefited the most from being adapted from book to screen. There are definitely hints and moments of this in the books—“The reaping takes only a minute. Effie, shining in a wig of metallic gold, lacks her usual verve. She has to claw around the girls’ reaping ball for quite a while to snag the one piece of paper that everyone already knows has my name on it”—but Elizabeth Banks really brought it to life and to the forefront. It’s her who made Effie such a fan favorite supporting character, and I’m pretty sure it’s largely her who inspired the writers/producers to expand Effie’s role into the Mockingjay movies, despite her only showing up in the book towards the end. And it’s a major change from the books that the book fans loved and welcomed with glee. How often does that happen?
